Meet the Rest of the Team |
“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others.” – Dalai Lama XIV Dr. Mitchell Kohl, M.D., J.D., FCLM, is an Omaha personal injury lawyer with a rare dual background as both a doctor and a trial attorney. He represents clients across Omaha, Columbus, and Nebraska in personal injury, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation claims. Mitchell is a second-generation lawyer. His father, John Kohl, is a respected criminal defense lawyer in Omaha. Inspired by his father’s dedication to justice, Mitchell built his own career on advocacy, blending his medical background with courtroom skill. Before joining Rensch & Rensch, Mitchell served as a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District, prosecuting thousands of cases from traffic offenses to serious felonies. As Head of the Speed Contest Task Force, he led efforts in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties to stop illegal street racing. Known for never backing down from trial, Mitchell has handled some of the toughest criminal cases. His extensive courtroom experience gives him a powerful advantage when advocating for injured clients. Earlier in his career, Mitchell practiced at the largest personal injury law firm in Colorado, where he recovered millions for clients. He also worked with McKeen & Associates in Detroit and Kline & Specter, P.C. in Philadelphia, applying his medical expertise to complex personal injury and medical malpractice cases. A Nebraska native, Mitchell earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Arizona State University (Summa Cum Laude) before earning his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. He went on to a Family Medicine residency because he knew its breadth of knowledge would be important for his future as an injury lawyer, and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for excellence in compassionate patient care. He later earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Today, Mitchell combines medical insight, courtroom skill, and relentless advocacy to fight for injury victims at Rensch & Rensch. As a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine, he offers unmatched expertise in cases involving complex medical evidence. Outside the courtroom, Mitchell enjoys skiing, golfing, hiking, cooking, reading constantly, mainly science and history, and supporting the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Dallas Cowboys, and St. Louis Cardinals. He also adores his two miniature schnauzers, Lily and Teddy. If you have been injured in Omaha, Columbus, or anywhere in Nebraska, contact Rensch & Rensch to schedule a free consultation.
